The Finger Joint

We have all heard about the "Green Thumb" but few of us have heard about the "Green Fingers". Below find out just what they are and why they are important.

What is a Finger Joint?

The "Finger Joint" is a way in which we can join, end to end, slats of wood. Previously this had to be achieved by the use of a "Butt Joint" and the Butt Joint is far less strong than the Finger Joint. In our attempts to bring the highest quality block to you we feel it is important to consider these factors.

The reason a Finger Joint is stronger than a Butt joint is that the glue surface is greatly increased in a Finger Joint. Our glue is actually stronger than the wood itself...which makes it very strong joint indeed. By maximizing the glue surface we can create a joint far superior to the old Butt Joint locking the pieces of wood together as if they were one.

And There's More...

Aside from being incredibly strong the Finger Joint serves a far more important purpose. We live on a planet that has limited resources. The forests of the world are being managed to maintain both a recreational and functional use. The Wood Welded Companies are very attentive to these considerations. It is our goal to utilize the forest in a sustainable fashion giving us all a better quality of life.

In the manufacturing process we generate a variety of lengths of wood all which need to be used in the most economical fashion. When we cut slats of wood to go into tops if we were to leave the shorter pieces laying on the shop floor we would be wasting a precious resource. By taking these shorter lengths and Finger Jointing them together we take a perfectly good product and use it in the most economical fashion. This does two things...it reduces the stress on our planets forests and secondly it reduces your cost for our product. If we were to discard the shorter lengths we would reduce our yield thus forcing us to charge a higher price for our product. This is why we like to think of the humble "Finger Joint" as the "Green Joint". Just as we all try to reduce, reuse and recycle this is our way of making sure the earth is healthy and in good shape for our children.
